Your guide to dahl products for PEX
PEX is a flexible plastic pipe that has become increasingly popular in the plumbing industry due to its numerous benefits. PEX is an acronym that stands for crosslinked polyethylene. The more technical definition is that PEX pipe is a polyethylene material that has undergone a change in molecular structure through processing whereby a majority of the polymer chains are chemically linked.
Plastics Pipe Institute (PPI) TN-17 states that crosslinking “results in improved performance properties such as elevated temperature strength, flexibility, chemical resistance, environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR), resistance to slow crack growth (SCG), toughness, and abrasion resistance. Crosslinking also makes PEX a “semi-thermoset” polymer, providing excellent long-term stability.”
There are different methods of crosslinking PEX, from which the finished products are PEX-A,PEX-B and PEX-C pipe. There is a wealth of information about PEX pipe at the Plastics Pipe Institute webpage here PEX (plasticpipe.org).
The bottom line is that PEX pipe is lightweight, flexible, and easy to install, making it ideal for a wide range of applications.
