Frequently Asked Questions

Products
We design and manufacture every dahl valve at our plant in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada using premium American brass.
Dahl offers connections for PEX A, B and C.
This includes F1807 Crimp or compression, which is made to the requirements of ASTM F876, and F1960 Cold Expansion (this is the style made popular by Uponor/Wirsbo).
Our Crimp and Compression connections are compatible with PEX A, B or C.
Cold Expansion connections are only compatible with PEX A.
dahl manufactures valves with:
- Iron pipe connections, with either female or male NPT connections and a maximum size of 3/4″ for rad valves, globe valves, and mini-ball™ water stops.
- Pipe connections from 1/8” to 3/4”, depending on the application.
- Solvent glue joint connections designed for Copper Tube Size (CTS) CPVC pipe. It is important to use mini-ball™ valves with our #46 and #4466 connections only. Based on our independent research, dahl does not recommend using 5/8 OD compression connections for copper pipe on CPVC pipe.
- Straight male thread connections for 1/2” BSP and 1/2” NPSM.

dahl does NOT offer:
- Gate valves
- Butterfly valves
- Check valves
- Foot valves
- Needle valves
- Diverter valves
- Zone valves
- Control valves
- Pressure relief valves
- Frost-free hydrants
- Valves with flange connections
- Mixing valves
- Industrial valves
- Pneumatic valves
- Valves for gas
- Dielectric unions
- Full-port ball valves. However, our large bore valves in select models will offer more than adequate flow for the majority of applications. All of our mini-ball™ valves meet the CSA and IAPMO flow requirements and have superior flow to comparable globe valves
- Sillcocks with mounting flanges (but we do offer a wide variety of hose bibbs)
- Stainless steel strapping
- Stainless steel valves
This will vary depending on the valve model. For assistance in getting Cv values for specific dahl valves, contact us here.

dahl valves are guaranteed for the lifetime of the installation and the warranty is transferrable should the property change hands. If a defect does occur that was caused by workmanship or materials at the time of original manufacture, dahl will replace the product with one of like quality, grade and function; pay up to $50 in labor charges for the replacement product; and pay mailing costs incurred to send the replacement product.
Our Dedicated Warranty Administrator will quickly respond to any of your questions or claims.

Applications
dahl manufactures valves for:
- Plumbing systems
- Hydronic heating systems with up to a 50/50 water/glycol mix
Note: dahl’s heavy pattern globe radiator valves are NOT suitable for one pipe steam systems. Without a drain in the seat, this type of valve does not allow for proper drainage of condensate.
dahl valves are NOT designed for use with:
- Gas
- Air
- Fuel or petroleum products
The certifications and listings for valves used on gas, air, and fuel or petroleum systems are different from those for valves used for water. Fuels or petroleum-based substances are not compatible with seal materials.
Repair and Replacements
No. dahl only sells complete cartridge assemblies because the self-adjusting spring-loaded packing system is maintenance-free. For all valves sold after September 1st 2013, this is covered by our Limited Lifetime Warranty. See our warranty information page for detailed terms and conditions.
No. We do not sell mini-ball™ components separately, and disassembling the valve will void your warranty.
Installation
No. You should need no more than a few common plumbing and hand tools.
- mini-ball™ valves: Working pressure/temp up to 250 psi/250°F, depending on pipe type and connection.
- Globe/compression stops: 200 psi and 250°F, dependent on pipe material and connection type.
- Regular pattern series globe radiator and balancing valves: 200 psi and 250°F
- Heavy pattern series globe radiator and balancing valves: 250 psi and 250°F. These valves come standard with a hi-temp disc and are suitable for 150 Working Steam Pressure (WSP).
No. Do NOT disassemble the valve, as this will void the warranty. Leave it in the open position and aim the flame away from the center of the valve body.
Yes. Open the valve fully (counter-clockwise) until the handle stops.
Yes. Installers have been putting these valves “backwards” on the return side of radiators for decades with no complaints. There is approximately a 5% degradation in the Cv value, which tends to have a negligible impact given the low flow rates of these applications.
No. The stainless steel insert for PEX pipe is too small for the larger inside diameter of Poly-B.
Yes. FlowGuard Gold is a brand name for a line of CPVC pipe and fittings.
No, IPEX AquaRise is made to iron pipe size similar to Schedule 40. Please contact our technical services team for more information about how mini-ball™ valves may be useful for AquaRise installers.
